Mythic Architecture

Over the last 100 years, several people have carved out space in our collective psyche for the benefit of all mankind. We are the receivers of these gifts and their works are treasured. Here are a few that have significantly impacted our view of humanity

First of these people is Sigmund Freud. Freud introduced us to the sexes and separated masculine from feminine. He made the first slice into the human psyche. We each have both sides in us and yet they are now distinct sides. Additionally, Freud started us on the path to 3d with the ‘id, ego, super-ego’ trio.

Next up is Carl Jung. Jung was Freud’s student. Jung created the second slice and cleanly divided out the subconscious into a personal subconscious and a collective unconscious. His work was in a different dimension than Freud’s. Again, we each have both parts and yet they are now distinct halves

Third is Abraham Maslow. Maslow created the final slice. He validated the first two slices and cut the human into a left-side awareness and a right-side awareness showing us our higher consciousness levels — our higher selves

By viewing these three slices or planes together we can see them as cuts in a cube with us being the cube. Each slice from each direction (front/back, up/down and left/right, respectively) divides the cube

The three slices together make 8 smaller cubes. In math terms, this is 2³=8. This is just saying that 2 polarities (aka. a slice) championed by 3 individuals makes 8 distinct places. These 8 little cubes are seen in this picture

Isabel Myers and Katharine Briggs were the explorers of these 8 new places and created the MBTI questionnaire. The MBTI helps people find where in these 8 territories they habitually reside. They named these 8 places the eight personality types and the places are: Extrovert, Introvert, Sensor, Intuitor, Thinker, Feeler, Judger and Perceiver (E, I, S, N, T, F, J, P). Myers-Briggs took the theories and made them real

Seeing these theories and practices combined in 3d now brings the Humanity Gem into view. It holds the gifts given by our predecessors and makes their contributions visible in an intuitive way

This may be a lot to absorb in one sitting. May you slowly enjoy the unfolding of these visualizations and let them create new spaces within you. Thankfully, once seen, we each now have the gem within us for life and beyond

Each axis split, the whole divides,

A mythic gem, both bright and true,
A map of me, a map of you.

Our mythic shape, our symmetry—
The cube reveals what lies in store,
A soul, designed in psyche’s core.
